A Guide To The Beautiful Cazorla
A little bit of history
Cazorla was the city that worked as an outpost for the Christian troops during the rough reconquest of Andalusia. Two castles still stay proof of the turbulent past of Cazorla and both of them were originally built by the Moors; a few centuries later, when the Christians came and conquered the region, the castles were restored, as they had much to suffer from the continuous battles.
How did Cazorla become famous and popular today? Well, the harsh days are long gone and now Cazorla is a very peaceful town that plays the role of the main base for those who are in love with nature and who want to visit the breathtaking Sierras Segura Y Cazorla Natural Park.
Visiting the town
What is very interesting about Cazorla is that the entire town is built around three squares that still represent the main squares of the town. Plaza de Constitucion is the square where all the important buses arrive, so it represents a very important commercial point of the town.
Even the tourist office is hosted by this square, so it is extremely attractive for tourists. Plaza de Corredera is the second important square of Cazorla, the one that attracts the interest of tourists due to the fact that it is egg shaped. The square is dominated by the Moorish palace that stands at its far end, a palace that displays an impressive architectural style.
Last but not least, visit the Santa Maria Square, the liveliest you’ll find in Cazorla. The name of the square comes from the old Cathedral that suffered damage from floods back in the 17th century and that was then torched by the troops of Napoleon; its ruins are now preserved and are of great importance for the inhabitants of Cazorla. La Yedra is the castle tower with an austere aspect that dominates the entire square, but it is also the building that hosts the Arts Museum.
