A Spanish Pearl : Andalusia
Visiting Andalusia
The first thing you need to know about Andalusia when you decide to visit is the fact that it represents the region where the most interesting, passionate and adrenaline-filled Spanish customs were born. Do you know the customs to which I am referring? I am, of course, talking about bullfighting and flamenco.
Andalusia is the region of the country located furthest south, so it enjoys a wonderful warm climate which seems to be responsible for the relaxed atmosphere which enfolds it. Andalusia is an amazing corner of Spain and probably the place where the Moorish legacy is the most apparent, giving it an exotic air which fits it completely. Andalusia also has a stunningly beautiful geography which provides breathtaking landscapes anywhere you look.
The attractions of Andalusia
Andalusia’s strongest point is definitely its cultural heritage, one of the richest in Spain. It is the region that made flamenco famous all over the world as well as the one where the great Picasso was born. The history of the region is another important attraction; it is this history that created Andalusia and made it appear as it does today. The long history begins in the 11th century BC, when a very interesting civilization appeared: the Tartessos. The civilization disappeared in the 8th century BC when the Carthaginians took control of the entire province. They were followed by the Romans, the Moors and finally the Christians. All these civilizations left little parts of themselves in everything that forms Andalusia, so you can imagine what a fascinating cultural combination is waiting for you there!
Sightseeing in Andalusia
The biggest sightseeing attractions of Andalusia are the greatest Moorish monuments in Spain: the outstanding Alhambra in Granada, the Mezquita of Cordoba, and the Giralda Tower located in Seville. However, the Moorish monuments are not the only ones that deserve your attention; the Gothic cathedrals in Seville and Malaga and the old city of Cordoba, which has been entirely designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, are elements that you shouldn’t miss.
Other activities
The cuisine is another attraction of the region, which is the motherland of the tasty tapas. The sherry wines are also exceptional here. The nightlife is an attraction for those who are young and just want to have a little bit of fun. So what are you waiting for? Pack your luggage and get yourself to Andalusia!
