Algorfa: The Small Village With The Big Heart

Costa Blanca is one of the most famous and at the same time popular coasts in Spain; this particular coast attracts visitors from all the corners of the world with its breathtaking landscapes, picturesque views, wonderful weather, beautiful holiday resorts and welcoming inhabitants. Costa Blanca has a series of destinations that you have to put on your ‘’must see’’ list and one of them is definitely Algorfa.

Algorfa is part of the interesting set of Vega Baja villages that became famous due to the fact that they have a very lush and extremely fertile countryside which makes them extremely beautiful and attractive.

The wonderful Algorfa

Algorfa is a charming village situated on the beautiful banks of the famous Segura River and even though its landscape is dominated by mountains, there are also spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea. Tourists love Algorfa because it is peaceful and also because the village enjoys no less than 300 days of perfect sun.

The oranges and lemons orchards that surround the village and participate in its economy are wonderful to see from the balcony of the villa you rent for the holiday, so prepare yourself for something spectacular. Discoveries show forms of life in the proximity of Algorfa which date back to 3000 BC, but the village became a municipality in 1328 when King Alfonso II granted it the privilege. Only 15 families occupying 15 homes formed the original Algorfa, but as the village became more and more attractive, it started to grow and flourish.

The agriculture was and still is the main occupation of the inhabitants, but this does not mean that you will get bored in Algorfa; there are a few nice bars and restaurants where you can spend some quality time away from the agitation of the city. Sightseeing is another important activity in Algorfa; you have to visit the 19th century Church that displays a beautiful architectural style.

While there, you can also play football, tennis, go swimming or play a long series of other sports that will help you relax. One thing you should know is that Algorfa gets very crowded on Fridays as it hosts the Friday market; this is the day when hundreds of people from the surrounding cities come to Algorfa to buy fresh vegetables and fruits.
