Antoni Gaudi’s Barcelona
The spectacular city of Barcelona
Millions of tourists visit the wonderful country of Spain every year and they do so because they feel attracted by its beauties – the landscape, its modern or traditional cities, and of course, the rich architectural and cultural heritage of the country.
The heritage is probably the one that attracts the biggest number of tourists to Barcelona, which is one of the most visited, as well as one of the most beautiful cities in Spain. Most of the tourists who think of Barcelona also think of Antoni Gaudi – it is almost impossible not to do that, because Antoni Gaudi is the icon of the city, the genius who created so many unique and special monuments.
Sightseeing in Barcelona: Antoni Gaudi’s monuments
Barcelona is home to the biggest number of works attributed to Antoni Gaudi. Some of his works carry the name of Guell, an attempt by the architect to show his respect to his friend, the industrialist Eusebi Guell. The Finca Guell, or the Guell Farm, is a place that charms you immediately as you pass its gates. Once inside, it looks like a whole new world, a world flooded with different forms and colors, a world specially created by Antoni Gaudi for Eusebi Guell. Bellesguard is a monument which is not entirely Gaudi’s work, but an old Gothic building which was restored by the architect in such a manner, that it resembles the original piece of work.
Casa Vincens is of great importance in the work of Gaudi, because it was the first architectural work of the master. It is now considered to be the milestone in the career of the great man. An interesting fact about the Casa Vincens is that it looks like an Arabian Palace, but Gaudi built it for the owner of a factory. The Casa Milla is also worth your entire attention, because it has something different from all the other monuments you’ve visited – its walls are all curved, looking like dunes of sand in the desert.
The Guell Palace was also built for the already famous Eusebi Guell. An interesting detail about this palace is that even though it has a small base, the impression that you get when you see it is that it seems to be a huge building. Last but not least, another symbol of Barcelona is, of course, the work of Gaudi for the Sagrada Familia. Though it is not finished yet, it attracts millions of curious tourists from all the corners of the world.
