Barcelona And Its Districts
Unique Barcelona
This proud city is so popular among tourists because it radiates its own style; a unique one for Spain. The Gothic architecture, and the one typical for the XXth century combine with the architectural style of the contemporary buildings, the inviting shops both new and old, the innovative museums and the first class restaurants.
Among the riches of Barcelona you will find the Roman ruins, as well as the modern contemporary architecture, with a sufficient dose of Gothic and modernist style (the Catalan Art Nouveau style). Great artists of the XXth century, like Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro, or Antoni Tapies have their own museums dedicated to their lives and to their work.
The Districts
If you want to see everything that Barcelona has to offer you have to take it slowly, step by step, district by district. Start your journey with Barri Gotic. A walk here will take you through narrow streets, very evoking. These are the streets of the oldest district in Barcelona, with important monuments, such as the cathedral and the medieval palace, monuments that mirror the history of the city.
The Barri Gotic district is famous for the Santa Maria del Pi Church, with its octogonal tower. Go around the church in order to get to the Main Square, which is bordered by XVIIIth century buildings beautifully ornated, and admire the immense ”window with roses.” This window characterizes the entrance in the Gothic churches. The La Seu Cathedral is also located in Barri Gotic district.
La Ribera is another district in Barcelona that deserves the tourists’ interest. The former residencial district hosts the Picasso Museum. It is also the place where you will find the very popular Gothic Church Santa Maria del Mar. La Ramba is another district of Barcelona, where you will feel the spirit of the modern Barcelona. La Rambla is a district full of life and the most famous one in Barcelona. Its coffee shops, the comedians who entertain the tourists on the street, and the flower vendors will all create this unique charm of La Rambla.
Last but not least on your list of sightseeing places is the La Sagrada Familia. The Cathedral is outstanding – absolutely breathtaking. You will definetely fall in love with it.
