What to do in case of loss or theft of your credit card?

You have just lost or someone has stolen your wallet with your credit card inside? Your first step should be to block your bank card to avoid any fraudulent use of it.

From abroad, you can call this number: 900.991.216 or 900.991.124 if you have a VISA card. It is available 24/7. Unfortunately, the lines are often busy and you must be patient.

You should know that you can also contact your bank direct. Generally, a list of useful numbers is given to you by your bank manager or sent to you when you receive your card.

You have not received this document? The best thing is to ask your bank to provide you with the list of numbers to call from Spain in case of theft/loss of your credit card.

Once you have contacted your bank, go to the local police station to report the theft. The statement should then be sent to your bank.

What to do in case of loss or theft of your mobile phone?

The first thing to do in case of theft of your mobile phone: contact your operator and ask them to suspend your line and block your SIM card. To do so, you will need your IMEI number. This is the number that enables you to identify the phone and to block it.

If you have not done so already, we recommend that you note down your IMEI number and keep it in a safe place. This number of around fifteen figures is available on the original box containing the phone, on the back of the battery or by dialling *#06# on your phone.

Here are contact numbers for operators:

  • – O2: +44 344 809 0202
  • – Vodaphone: +44 7836 191 191
  • – EE: +44 7953 966 250
  • – BT Mobile: +44 179 359 6931

Please take note that it is also possible to suspend your line via your operator’s website.

You must then go to the police station to report the theft and send the statement as quickly as possible to your operator. If you have insurance, this is the moment to contact them to obtain a refund or a replacement for your mobile phone.

You should realise that, with the development of smartphones, theft of mobile phones is increasingly frequent. We therefore recommend that you supervise your phone to avoid any problems, even when you are using it. In particular, keep an eye on your mobile phone when you are sitting at an outdoor terrace.

What to do in case of accident and how to contact your insurance company?

In case of a problem with your vehicle, your accommodation, etc., think about contacting your insurance company. In any case, you should find out in advance, before your holidays, what they cover (accommodation, car, etc.).

Consider your bank options too, because many credit cards include assistance if you have paid for services with them (accommodation reservation, plane tickets, car rental).

Finally, if you have rented a hire car, an assistance number should be given to you when you sign your contract with the rental company. Do not hesitate to ask them to clearly explain the procedure in case of accident and to indicate this number.
