The old Sant Vicenç church, built in the Gothic style, bears testimony to the history of Tossa de Mar
Situated in Vila Vella, the old town of Tossa de Mar, this church was built in the fifteenth century. Enjoy a stroll through Tossa de Mar’s alleys and take a little detour. Unfortunately, today there is not much left of the original building except for the choir, the bell tower and the side chapel.
The church was used as an ammunition depot during the French occupation; most of it was destroyed after the explosion of several gas canisters that were stored there. The little that remained was then used by the inhabitants of Tossa to build their own houses.
You will particularly appreciate the charm of the ruins that look out over the sea. If you love photography, you will find an inspiring subject here with a beautiful view of the Mediterranean.
For a change of scenery, opt for a holiday rental with a seaview!

Devotion to Vincent de Saragossa and the new parish church. Check with images. Should this be The worship of…? Without images, it’s hard to see what’s meant.
The new Church of Sant Vicenç was built to replace the old place of worship that had become too small when the population of the town grew expansively. Dedicated to Saint Vincent de Saragossa, it was built in a neo-classical style in the 1770s.
Inside, make sure you view the altarpiece of the Rosary and the altar of the Immaculate Conception that survived the destruction caused by the Spanish Civil War.
The interior polychrome was restored in recent years and so, the Church of Sant Vicenç at Tossa de Mar is once again displaying its full glory.
