Santa Susanna
Santa Susanna, tourist resort on the Costa del Maresme
Santa Susanna is a modern and pleasant seaside resort on the Costa Maresme, in the north-east of Spain. In fact, the new modern town of Santa Susanna joins on to the old fishing village of Malgrat de Mar. The two seaside resorts are linked by a beautiful promenade where many shops, bars and restaurants are aimed at ever-present tourists. On the other side, Santa Susanna borders Pineda de Mar. The tourist centre extends mainly along the beaches, where all the facilities are geared towards a pleasant and carefree holiday. Santa Susanna owes its tourist attraction to its privileged location at the foot of Montnegre mountain; from there you have an indescribable view of the azure-blue waters of the Mediterranean.

Santa Susanna and its centres of interest
Santa Susanna’s origins can be found in the valley. In the 18th century, Santa Susanna was a fortified town with watchtowers and fortified farms, which had been built for the inhabitants to defend themselves and protect themselves from the incessant pirate attacks. In 1836, Santa Susanna broke away from Pineda, Malgrat de Mar and Sant Pere de Riu and founded its own municipality. In Santa Susanna many buildings are worth a visit, such as the Santa Susanna church, the Santa Susanna Pre-Romanesque Chapel, the Sant Crist de Balasch chapel, the Mare de Déu de Gràcia hermitage that offers a surprising view of the region, many country houses or “masies” such as Mas de Dalt, Can Torret, Mas Vivó and Can Ratés, the Font del Boter forest reserve, interesting for its geology, rich flora and fauna, and the different old watchtowers.
As in other Spanish cities, Santa Susanna organises several parties and cultural and folkloric festivals such as the Cultural Spring, the ‘Festa Major’ at the end of August with dancing, concerts, activities related to cycling, Catalan dancing, fireworks, the national day of Catalonia, traditional Catalan dancing and many other festivities.
