Holidays In Murcia
Even though Murcia stands among the smaller regions of Spain, and even though it is not extremely popular with tourists, it is one of the most beautiful regions of the country. It is a region which seems to have infinite sun with the most spectacular beaches and sceneries.
Mar Menor and its famous La Manga
Probably the most important jewel of the region, Mar Menor is the salt water lagoon which is considered to be the largest in Europe. The water is spread over 170 square kilometers and it offers its tourists big stretches of beaches, which are perfect for families with small children because the waters are shallow. La Manga is a piece of land which represents the border between Mar Menor and the Mediterranean Sea; it is a 24 kilometers long stretch of land which is only formed of beaches covered by delicate sands, very close to the crystal clear waters. Mar Menor, as well as La Manga, is perfect for water sports; scuba diving, snorkeling, sailing, canoeing, swimming, everything that crosses your mind can be practiced here.
The capital
The capital of the region also has the name of Murcia, and it is a city with a very interesting temperature, high in the summers, but mild in the winters. The main attraction of Murcia is represented by its cathedral, which was built on the same spot where the old Arab Mosque used to stand. The uniqueness in details comes from the architectural mixture: a Baroque façade, combined with a Gothic interior, makes it stand out and overwhelm anybody who sees it.
The city of Cartagena
The fact that Cartagena is and used to be a naval port to the sea made it of great importance in the history of the country. For centuries, many civilizations tried to occupy it and their fingerprints can still be seen in the numerous ruins of castles and forts. The atmosphere is very calm now in the city and you can enjoy it in one of the many bars and restaurants which stand at your disposal.
