When you hear the name Lloret de Mar, your first thoughts may not be about keeping fit. You might think of great food and drink, the wonderful nightlife or relaxing on the beach. And all that is possible in Lloret! But how can you best ‘stay in shape’ so you have something to show off when you are venturing out on the beach?

There are a number of options to work out or keep fit in Lloret de Mar. The municipality of Lloret has been battling a slightly negative image for some years now. This is mostly because, young people come here only to party and to enjoy themselves. This is something the local council wanted to turn around, which is why since 2013 there have been numerous projects, including a 50-metre Olympic pool as well as an extensive sports centre just outside Lloret, established to bring more sporty youngsters to Lloret de Mar. And this has been very successful! In the early and late season, the town is teeming with athletes..

And since 2017, you can now attend CrossFit training sessions at Crossfit77 Feet. The Box (the location) is connected with the Crossfit77 Feet branch in Blanes, a town about 6 km from Lloret.

 

What exactly does CrossFit entail?

A CrossFit workout is virtually always made up of a warm-up, some technique and a Workout of the Day (WOD). The warm-up is of course self-explanatory. During the technique segment, the various techniques for the WOD are discussed This means that CrossFit is a group session, and there is great personal guidance. That sets CrossFit apart from many other sports training centres. People of every level can join in and there is always a nice feeling of togetherness. That is what makes CrossFit so enjoyable!

The WOD is different every day, but the elements are always the same: as many repetitions as possible of a particular exercise within a set time frame, or a certain number of repetitions ‘as fast as possible’. One thing is certain: your heart rate will increase and after the training, which takes a maximum of an hour, you will feel really satisfied. Ready to hit the beach!

Along with the group sessions, there are also times when you can work out by yourself. The coaches are also available at those times if you need assistance.

The CrossFit gyms in Blanes (where you will also find a weight-training club) and Lloret de Mar are open 6 days a week and for every day there is a schedule for the WOD’s and the Open Box (individual training). Those schedules can be found on the Facebook pages and the boxes are open from 0700 to 2130 daily. That means you have every chance to keep in shape!

Don’t be put off, thinking ‘That is all a bit too much for me’ because you will get really good guidance from Isona (the main coach at Crossfit Lloret who also speaks English very well). Isona and Edu (the owner of the Crossfit Box in Blanes) take part in many competitions and regularly come away with prizes. Lively -and fit- guys!
