Oviedo
History:
It was in 761 when two monks founded this city – Oviedo. Situated in northern Spain, this small settlement with a local church dedicated to Saint Vincent grew over centuries into a large city. Today, Oviedo is the capital city of the Province named Asturias with a population of over 200 000 inhabitants.
But what happened in the mid time? In the mid time, the domestic rulers did a lot of work. As a result of their effort, today we can see many magnificent buildings such as San Vicente de Oviedo – church and monastery founded in the 8th century, the church of St Mary at Mount Naranco built in 9th century, the Holy chamber of Oviedo – church from the same period (under the protection of UNESCO World Heritage Site), the University of Oviedo established in the 15th century, El Fontán Market – monumental complex from the 17th century, etc.
