Santiago cathedral:
This cathedral is presumed to have been built in the 15th century. It is built in the traditional Gothic architecture. This splendid building attracts large number of visitors all through the year. This cathedral is built in honor of Saint James the Great. As a custom, a carving has been added to the main vault of the Cathedral. The cathedral has beautiful works of sculpture.
Other popular churches built centuries ago include Basilica of Begona, Saint Vincent Church, Saint Nicholas of Bari Church, Santos Juanes Church and Saint Anton Church.
Some of the important museums of Bilbao are Basque museum, Fine Arts Museum, Maritime Museum, Guggenheim Museum and Euskalduna Conference Centre. The most popular museum is the Guggenheim museum. The first interesting piece of work in this museum is the image of a dog made out of flowers. This image is at the entrance of the museum. This is the most spectacular work in this museum.
Every visitor to this museum appreciates this immaculately beautiful work. Interestingly this museum was constructed in the year 1997 amidst protest from local population. But now this museum has become so popular that it receives largest number of visitors. Another feature of this museum is that it is built out of glass, limestone and titanium. The construction of the museum is nearing completion and the authorities are confident that the museum will become fully operational very shortly.
The Fine Arts museum is dedicated to the development of fine arts. It deals with many areas of fine arts like painting, drawing, sculpture, etc. This museum is considered to be one of the best Fine Arts Museums of Europe.
