Places of interest in Spain – Canary Island
Among the busiest islands of Spain, located to the northwest of the African mainland, the Canary Islands have many other cities spread over 7445 square kilometers. Tenerife, Hierro, La Palma, Gomera, Gran Canaria are some of the other cities coming under the fold of this autonomous Spanish Archipelago province. Each of these cities has many places of interest for the tourist. A few of the places of interest are mentioned here:
La Orotava:
This charming place in Spain has beautiful parks and it is from here one can view the Teide Volcano spewing colorful lava. This volcano is located at an altitude of about 2000 meters and covers an area of about 80 square kilometers. There is the popular Teide National Park.
This is one of the most popular beaches in Spain. There are many natural pools in the Colon Avenue which is very near the beach. The historic San Felipe’s Castle is located here. In addition to this, the Naval museum and the Church of Nuestra Senora are both located here. The Martianez complex built by Caesar and a row of beautiful hotels are the other attractions in this city.
Icod de lox Vinos:
Located at the foot of the Teide Volcano, the place is famous for its wines and is yet another charming beauty of Spain. Some tourists say that this town is a garden among gardens. The Church of San Marcos, Church of Francisca, San Aqustin convent, El Pilar square, Dragon tree are some of the many places worth seeing.
Candelaria:
This holy place has the most revered throne of the Virgin of La Candelaria. As a matter of fact, this centuries-old image was destroyed in the year 1826 and has been replaced by a copy that is now on display in the basilica. Don’t forget to see the three coves where hotels have sprung up.
La Laguna:
This is one of the most important towns of the Canary Islands. The narrow roads beautifully illuminated at night, stately houses, a place called the University City are the other places of importance. There is a cathedral believed to have been built in the 16th Century which is popular for its collection of rare paintings, carvings, etc. The Church of La Concepcion is yet another place of visit.
Needless to mention, the Canary Islands have many villas and apartments to offer for a most comfortable stay.
