This autonomous community consists of 17 different autonomous regions or areas. The place is known for its beautiful landscape and rich vegetation in some of the areas. The beach and the tall mountains have added beauty to the place. Some of the historical monuments have made this region a busy tourist spot.
In fact, the tourist population has been steadily on the increase here. Interestingly, six historical places in Castilla Y Leon are declared as world heritage site by the UNESCO.
Way of St. James:
This church is believed to have been built more than a thousand years ago. This is one of the most revered places for Christians and it is believed that this church is just next to Jerusalem. This is one of the most immaculately beautiful churches which have ever been built and it should never be missed. The remains of St. James which was carried in a boat is buried here.
According to historians the church is built during the medieval period. The church has some of the most intricate works of arts and paintings by renowned painters from all over the world. The number of pilgrims to this church has been steadily increasing. The two towers of the church and the bell tower in the midst of these two towers presents a most beautiful picturesque of the church.
Burgos Cathedral:
The beauty of the church does not require more emphasis when it is said that this cathedral is declared as a world heritage site by UNESCO. This cathedral is the best example of French Gothic architecture. The construction of the cathedral is believed to have been started in the year 1221.
Many great sculptures and artists have toiled hard to mould this cathedral into such a beautiful masterpiece building. Architects say that facade of the cathedral is a typical French Gothic architecture.
One of the most interesting works in the church is articulated statute called as ‘Papamoscas’ which opens its mouth whenever the hour bell rings. The interior of the church is full of works outstanding works of architecture.
The other interesting work is in the façade where one can see the statute of Santa Maria with water oozing out. There are many other works of beautiful works of sculpture. The famous Condestable chapel is a part of this church.
