Places of interest in Spain – Costa del Azahar
Costa del Azahar which means ‘Orange Blossom Coast’ is located between Vinaros and Valencia near Denia. The place is popular not only for its beautiful beach, but also for other places of interests. Unlike other beaches of Spain, this beach is not thickly populated.
Places of interest in this great Costa del Azahar include the resort ‘Benicassim’. This great resort Beniccassim has a castle called ‘Montremos’. This castle is believed to have been built by Moors during the 10th century. Thereafter many improvements have been carried out to this castle. This beautiful castle is certainly worth seeing.
There is a great mountain on the other side of this coast. So the visitors will have enough opportunity to enjoy sports like cycling, mountain climbing, rafting, etc. At the same time it is the most ideal place to enjoy the natural beauty of the places around the mountain. Just at the foot of the mountain are many villages. These villages are the ideal place for those who are interested in touring this rural side.
The villagers are really a lucky lot because they spend their life in the midst of this natural beauty. The narrow but well maintained cobbled roads perfectly illuminated during the night are certainly a wonderful experience. The restaurants in these villages offer the best local cuisine and the traditional wine.
Like other parts of Spain, Costa del Azahar also has many museums which have proud collections of many contemporary works of art, sculpture and artifacts.
Apart from the villages, there are many towns around this Costa del Azahar which are worth visiting. Morella, Peniscola, Vinaros are some of the towns which are worth visiting. In fact these towns’ main source of income is tourism. At the same time, places of interest frequented by tourists in these towns are well maintained.
While you are in Peniscola, never forget to visit the historic castle. This castle is believed to have been built in 1307. This huge castle has now become a place of reverence to many people. This is because Pope Luna (Pope Benedict XIII) was a father of the church in this castle. The other reason being the great epic film ‘El cid’, which was shot in this castle.
It is certainly needless to mention that Costa del Azahar is proud of its beach. The coast is just ‘all inspiring’. There are many villas dotted on this coast. The rentals are quite reasonable. The hotels and restaurants serve the best food at the most economical rate.
