Puerto de Mogan
Position and climate
Puerto de Mogan is situated on the southwest coast of the island of Gran Canaria. This picturesque fishing village is said to have the best climate in the world. In the winter, daylight hours are longer than those in Europe and the temperature is few degrees lower.
During summer, the temperature goes from twenty to mid thirty degrees. Because of the many channels between the marina and the harbor, this village is often called the “Venice of the Canaries”.
It was built on an old settlement, a village called Playa de Mogán, which had small houses and narrow passageways. But the building of modern apartment buildings on the beach started eight years ago. The sand was imported from the Sahara. Its golden color was meant to change the black color of the volcanic sand. Next to the beach, there are many restaurants with a variety of cuisines, domestic and international.
