Places of Interest in Spain – Valencia

Spain has now become the preferred destination of many tourists from the world over. Places of interest are spread over every nook and corner in Spain. It can be said that there is no place which does not have any tourist spot.Valencia is an autonomous province which has many places that are of interest for tourists. Some of the most beautiful monuments built centuries ago are in Valencia. Some of the renowned museums are also found here.

Some of the important places of visit are briefly mentioned here:

Serranos tower:

Called Torres de Serranos in Spanish language, these pentagonal shaped towers are believed to have been constructed in the 14th century. Actually, these towers are part of the fort that was constructed around the city. The towers are built in traditional Gothic design and they are the largest towers ever built in Europe. One can have a beautiful view of the city and of Tuia River from the top of the towers. The towers have galleries with beautiful borders.

Museums:

One of the renowned museums of Spain is the Museum of Fine Arts called San Pio V or Museo de Bellas Artes San Pio. This museum has a collection of painting works by some of the most popular artists like Velazques, Goya, E reco and Murillo. It also houses some of the renowned works of sculpture by renowned craftsman Mariano Benlliure. Apart from this, there are many works of archaeological interest.

Monasterio de San Miguel de los Reyes:

The building housing this museum was actually a farmhouse belonging to one of the Muslim families. According to historical records, the building was constructed in the farmhouse during the 11th century. During the 14th and 16th centuries monasteries were added to the building. During the 19th century it was used as a prison. Now, it has been transformed into a museum where works of art and artifacts are on display.

Botanical garden:

According to historical records, this botanical garden was established during the year 1567. The garden is used as a research centre on medicinal plants. Of course, the garden did not receive much attention. However, the garden was restored very recently and now it boasts of some of the rarest species of plants brought from many parts of the world. It has walking paths and it is the most ideal place for those who want to relax in the midst of beautiful environment. This garden is considered as one of the most unique gardens of Europe.
