Spending Pleasant Days In Bilbao
A special place
Bilbao is not the most famous, nor the most popular tourist attraction in Spain, such as the beautiful Costa del Sol, but it definitely is a place where tourists from all over the world can spend a few pleasant days in a quiet and charming atmosphere.
Bilbao stands out with the fact that it is a seaport city located along the Nervion River, very close to the picturesque Bay of Biscay.
Interesting attractions
The Casco Viejo, also known as the Old Quarter represents the chief interest point in Bilbao. This is the place that hosts the most important sights in Bilbao, such as the Santiago Gothic Church, dating back to the 14th century, the Teatro Arriaga, which you will find stunning and the Plaza Nueva, a square that attracts the attention and the interest of tourists with its elegant arcades.
Enjoying these spectacular buildings would never bring into your mind the fact that 1983 brought a huge flood that almost destroyed them; they were all so well restored, that the narrow streets seem to have always been quiet and out of any danger. These cobbled streets are also the ones that host the most amazing bars and the most exquisite restaurants in Bilbao.
A burst of energy
Bilbao is generally very peaceful and quiet and these are the main reasons why so many tourists choose it as their holiday destination. However, August is the time of the year that bursts with energy, as it hosts the amazing Semana Grande, a colorful and joyous bullfighting festival with lots of dancing, music, food and good drinking.
The transformation journey
The local authorities are now in a continuous struggle to transform Bilbao as one of the most important tourist attractions in Northern Spain. The Guggenheim Museum receives a lot of attention as part of the program, but it fully deserves it. There are a few other historic buildings that will attract your attention and surprise you, such as the Municipal Library, a place where tourists can enjoy different temporary exhibitions.
The Congresos de Musica Palace is another major Bilbao attraction and so is the San Mames football stadium, so make sure you also have them on your list. In which concerns the hotels selection, you’ll soon find out that it is an excellent one: Gran Silken Bilbao or Hotel Carlton are just two of the ideal options. Enjoy Bilbao!
