Tarifa, The Popular Tourist Spot of Spain

This small town of Andalusia in Spain is a very busy place throughout the year. Located very close to the sea, it offers spectacular view of the sea. Actually it is located near the strait of Gibraltar near Morocco, at a place where the confluence of Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean takes place. Tarifa is also popular for great monuments like castles, churches, etc. It also has some of the most renowned parks of Europe.

What more does a tourist require than to spend his holiday in this world of spectacular beauty? To make the stay comfortable, there are numerous villas, hotels and restaurants. Of course, if you have a fascination for shopping, it has many shops selling many works of traditional art.

Brief history:

Like many other cities and provinces of Spain, even Tarifa was under the occupation of Romans, Moors and Almoravids. During this period many wars were fought and in some of the wars, the monumental buildings in Tarifa were damaged. However, these buildings were repaired and restored to their original beauty by subsequent civilizations.

There are many places of interest for a tourist. Some of the places are briefly introduced here:

Guzman castle:

This beautiful castle is located very close to the sea. According to historians, the castle was built by Caliph Abd ar Rahman III in the year 960. During the 13th century, a tower called Guzman el Bueno tower was built. This spectacular monument is certainly a place which should never be missed.

The beach:

The beach of Tarifa occupies an important place because both the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean meet here. This beach is popular for the water sports available there. Wind surfing is the most popular sport on this beach. In fact many of the wind surfing events are held here. Wind surfing training schools are also available here. The beach is very well maintained. Tourists can also watch the spectacular shows by Dolphins and Whales. Kite surfing is another popular event on this beach.

Bird watching:

During spring and autumn, varieties of migrating birds make Tarifa their home. Many visitors prefer to visit Tarifa during this time.

Baelo Claudia:

This was a prosperous city during the Roman period. Now, all that is available is the ruins of this great empire. Baelo Claudia is very close to Tarifa. A visit to Baelo Claudia will provide a glimpse of the Roman civilization.
