The Attractions Of Barcelona
Most of the important monuments in Barcelona are the works of the great architect Antoni Gaudi; one of the most famous and popular is the La Sagrada Familia Cathedral, the symbol of Barcelona. The three doorways of the Cathedral represent Faith, Charity and Hope while the 18 towers were designed to represent Jesus, Virgin Mary, the 12 Apostles and the 4 Evangelists. All these demonstrate the great religious inclination of the famous architect.
Casa Mila is also Gaudi’s work which waits for its visitors in the Eixample quarter. Due to its unique architecture, Casa Mila has been designated a World Heritage by the UNESCO.
Casa Batllo and Park Guell
Casa Batllo was not originally the work of Gaudi; the house was built in 1877, but Gaudi restored it between 1905 and 1907. The building is representative of the modernista style; it actually represents a dragon, the dragon that religion tells us that Saint George killed.
If you pay attention to the details, you will realize the fact that the chimneys and the rooftop are designed to represent the spine of the dragon while the cross and the turret are meant to represent the sword of Saint George.
Park Guell was built at the order of Count Guell who wanted a complex of houses for those pertaining to the middle class. The park is now famous for the double staircase and the room that was meant to play the role of the central market (the room is spectacular thanks to its Doric Pillars).
The Cathedral and Las Ramblas
The Cathedral, also known as Santa Eulalia, dates back to the 14th century and waits for its visitors in the spectacular Gothic Quarter that is hosted by the Old City. Las Ramblas is probably the most famous avenue in Spain, the place where you find anything from historical monuments to pavement artists and restaurants that serve traditional food.
A magic fountain
The famous Montjuic is the place that offers you the most spectacular views over the city and also the place where you will find the magical fountain. The fountain starts to sing and dance every half hour, attracting the attention of tourists.
Food in Barcelona
The food in Barcelona is delicious, like it is in the entire country. The restaurants that serve the delicious cuisine are all over the city but La Boqueria is the perfect place for a delicious meal. Bon Appetite!
