The Best Season To Visit Salamanca
March-April: Holy Week
The Holy Week celebrations in Salamanca are the most impressive in Spain. Processions starting from the Gothic cathedral invade the streets of the city. “Lunes de Aguas”, the Monday following Easter is marked by a tradition since the Middle Ages. Everybody goes to the River Tormes to celebrate the return of exiled priest during Lent by King Phillip II.
June: San Juan de-Sahagún
On June 12, there are celebrations for Salamanca San Juan de Sahagún, the patron saint of the city. Fireworks are fired all over the city, bullfights are held, and a market of regional products is installed, where you can buy handmade local products. Young and old, everyone takes part in the festivities until early in the morning.
September: Las Ferias de Salamanca
The annual fair of Salamanca sees the organization of concerts, fireworks, theatrical productions and bullfights. It takes place in the second week of September.
Things to Do in Salamanca
Search the Frog!
Hidden among the decorations of the facade of the university is a frog! Legend has it that whoever finds it, (without asking anyone!), will be an overwhelming success with a happy marriage!
Partying
While visitors know more about Salamanqe for its rich history and beautiful architecture, the city is also famous for its nightlife! Join the crowd of students at Salamanca partying in the many bars and clubs in the town.
Relax in the Plaza Mayor
The Plaza Mayor is the center of activities of Salamanca, as it always has been since the 18th century. It is also considered the most beautiful place in Spain. At night, the lights are lit up to welcome tourists, students, and residents of Salamanca, where they can breathe fresh air and enjoy a pleasant atmosphere.

The “tapas” – or bar snacks in Castile and Leon – are a good way to fill your stomachs while exploring several different bars with typical dishes of the region. You will find the best bar snacks in bars around the Plaza Mayor and Calle Van Dyck.
