The San Fernando Castle In Alicante
A Spanish holiday
It is easy to understand the reason why millions of people from all the corners of the world choose Spain as their holiday destination. This European country really is one of the most beautiful and spectacular in the entire world.
When you visit it, you will see that its beauty comes from its incredible diversity: it does not matter what type of tourist you are because you will definitely find something of your taste in Spain.
The landscapes differ from those dominated by high mountains with peaks covered by snow all year long to those dominated by stretched beaches and shallow waters of a perfect crystal clear blue, the cities are modern and even futuristic but you will also find small villages where the traditions and the customs of the country are still alive.
A place to visit
If you have problems in deciding where to go on your Spanish holiday, I strongly recommend Alicante. Situated on the sunny Costa Blanca, Alicante is a vibrant city with a very turbulent past that has left its fingerprints on every corner of the city.
The Greeks, the Romans, the Iberians, even the Phoenicians wanted a little piece of Alicante but it was the Moors and then the Christians who won at the end. The turbulent past created the mixed cultural, architectural and artistic heritage that will make you love the city.
The sightseeing list is very long and it contains a series of monuments and places that are a ‘’must see’’ if you really want to understand the past and the essence of Alicante. For example, the San Fernando Castle is one of those places where you have to go in order to enjoy the beauties of life.
A few words about the castle
San Fernando Castle is a beautiful castle that guards the city from the top of the Tossal hill. Dating back to the 19th century, its main purpose was the protection of the city against the strong Napoleon Bonaparte.
The castle is now a very important sightseeing spot in Alicante because it is a place from where you have breathtaking views of the city.
It is surrounded by a series of monuments of great importance for Alicante such as Jorge Juan Institute, the Estels Square or the Huerfanos de Ferroviarios College, giving it an even greater importance. When you visit Alicante, make sure you also visit the San Fernando Castle because I am sure that you will love it!
