The Santa Maria Port
An exceptional choice
The Santa Maria Port is a great choice for those who want to spend a few relaxing days accompanied by their family in a place surrounded by a pleasant atmosphere. The inhabitants of Cadiz and the inhabitants of Seville are the ones who made the Santa Maria Port famous as they are the ones who started building chalets and villas in this wonderful resort, along its beautiful and attractive Playa Puntillo.
The Playa Puntillo is not actually situated in the town itself but a few kilometers outside of it; however it is not difficult at all to reach it, so this is why it is considered to be one of Santa Maria Port’s major attractions. You only have to take a relaxing fifteen minute walk or one of the many local buses in order to get to Playa Puntillo and then the wonderful afternoon can start.
Tourists love the place because besides the fact that it is a very picturesque one, it also has numerous friendly beach bars that offer very cheap sangria (if you plan to stay here at least a few hours, bring your own food because there are small chances of finding any).
Getting back to the town
Santa Maria Port has a series of attractions that keep the tourists entertained. For example, the sherry feels like home here, so you will find plenty of bodegas serving it. Another big attraction of the town is represented by the whitewashed houses that line the streets and the beautiful view given by the river’s banks.
The port is another place that you have to visit; up until the town was connected with Cadiz by train, there was no shipment of sherry that did not come through Santa Maria. Some firms even offer tourists the possibility of choosing a tour that also involves tastings. However, these tours are not organized on a regular basis, so I recommend you to phone in advance and ask for information if you want to participate in one.

If you are in Cadiz and decide to visit the Santa Maria Port, take the ferry, because it is cheaper than the bus; there is also a catamaran service at your disposal that always leaves from quay number 7. The tourist office is found at Calle Luna 22 and it will help you with all the information you need regarding the restaurants or the entertainment possibilities in Santa Maria. Enjoy!
