Tossa de Mar: one of the most beautiful towns of the Costa Brava
Tossa de Mar is a snug seaside resort on the Costa Brava located in the north east of Spain on the Mediterranean Sea approximately 80 kilometres away from Barcelona. It is perhaps a little less well known than neighbour Lloret de Mar, but is just an as popular sun destination. With its wonderful beaches, long warm summers and old centre it is a very suitable place for a relaxing holiday with the family. Tossa used to be a fishing village, but the last fifty years it has transformed into a nice holiday spot. It is beautifully located on the rough coast line with steep rocks and a dense cultivation, it has an idyllic surrounding. The city is also known as “the pearl of the Costa Brava”, and rightly so.

Beach
Of course you can also come here for the sun and beach. Tossa de Mar has 3 nice beaches, Platja Gran in the centre, in the north you have the bay of Platja del Mar Menuda and surrounded by high rocks you have El Codolar, a small beach that is especially popular with underwater sportsmen and woman. For the small people there is a playground on the beach. Because Tossa doesn´t have its own harbour, there are numerous sport and fishing boats anchored in the sheltered bay that are pulled up on the beach at night. When there doesn’t seem to be an end coming to the long summer beach days, it is a very nice show to see.

Tossa also has a lot to offer to culture lovers. In the medieval inner city, Vila Vella, you can wander around small streets and you can admire the city walls and watch towers from the 12th century. The old castle towers out above Tossa and offers a fantastic view of the beach and the Mediterranean Sea. This museum is located in the new part of Tossa that stretches out along the beach, Villa Nova. It is also nice to take a look in the light house.
