Madrid happens to be the Spain’s largest city. Being the capital city of Spain, it is a popular stop for most of the travelers and visitors. A number of international and economic flights land in Madrid and even those who are planning to visit some other part of Spain tend to stay here for a while.
The city of Madrid has a lot to offer but things and services are a little expensive out here. But this does not mean that Madrid cannot be enjoyed on a budget. You need to plan in advance and accordingly you can enjoy staying even if your budget is limited.
To make sure that you do not end up paying excessively on transportation, use only public transportation systems. Public transportation systems in Madrid are well-maintained and you can use them to move to any part of the city. The bus system is extremely cheap in particular and it reaches well at all sites and attractions that city has. Using buses to travel in Spain is cheaper option and you also won’t find these buses to be overcrowded or uncomfortable.
For accommodation purposes, consider renting a place rather then sleeping in a hotel. There are a number of villas around and some of them offer a single room for a limited period of time. This will save a lot of money, particularly if you’re planning to stay for more than a week. Make sure that you do not involve a broker in between and make a deal directly with the owner.
For this you need to plan prior to Madrid to visit and look out in various web portals where you can find a number of options. Going for an option which has a kitchen along will also help you save heavily. This way you’ll be able to avoid spending on food and drinks and rather cook your own food.
Madrid is famous for museums but the entry fee to most of these museums are quite heavy. You can plan to visit museums on Sunday. This way you’ll be able to visit the museums on how much reduced fee. Make sure that you buy tickets only after you reach the museum so that you do not end up paying more than the actual amount.
Even if you have to eat in restaurants, make sure that you do not eat in those restaurants that are full of tourists. The list includes all establishments that are present in the main city streets. For cheaper options, you should try local food and avoid going to exotic places that offer international fare. Dishes like Gazpacho soup, paella and Huevos a la Flamenca cost a lot less then a single slice of pizza or a serving at McDonald’s.
