Visit In Catalonia
Catalonia
The majestic country of Spain has varied and beautiful landscapes. There is not a single place in Spain which does not have something fascinating about it. Here we talk about the beautiful place of Catalonia, located on the French border.
From the Pyrenees on the French border to the beautiful beaches of the Costa Blanca extends Catalonia, a large territory with flowering valleys, picturesque villages and Romanesque churches, where the landscapes change from the cold mountain villages to the warm beaches of the coast.
The people here are proud of its culture and history, taking into account that along with Barcelona and Aragon, Catalonia was one of the greatest maritime powers of the Mediterranean Sea. Currently being conducted by a semi-autonomous regional government, it has its own language, Catalan. The different provinces of Catalonia are the provinces of Catalonia, Andorha, Girona, Barcelona and Tahragona.
The main towns of eastern Spain are Barcelona and Valencia, Spain’s third city which is a cultural center and continues to grow. The Roman presence on the Iberian Peninsula dates back to the conquest of Empuries along the Costa Brava (Wild Coast) with traces visible today, particularly in Tarragona, the center of the then Roman province called Tarraconensis, a city that now offers a unique vision of Roman Spain.
To the north is the city of Girona (or Gerona) while in the south is Alicante with its arid hills that fall into the blue waters of the bay. Many monuments of the region belong to the period of the Renaissance, when cities in Catalonia had a remarkable development. Today the main activity is agriculture but of course the tourism industry is also present, especially on the coasts.
In the sixties the Costa Brava became one of the top destinations for mass tourism and package tours. The intense development during this period may seem like a mistake today but the new locations such as Lloret de Mar still attract many tourists.
If you visit only the coast, the best choice is the Costa Brava or further south, the Costa Blanca with its natural beauty and cuisine. You should also visit cultural cities including Barcelona and Tarragona of course, which is home to a rich artistic heritage: a number of monasteries including the famous monastery of Montserrat and the Poblet are present there. Many small medieval towns like Monthlanc, Besalú Girona also offer accommodation options and opportunities to discover the monuments and museums.
