Visiting Pueerto De La Cruz
If there is something for which Puerto de la Cruz is known, it is tourism. Having been a popular tourist destination for over a hundred years, Puerto de la Cruz knows how to attract visitors and how to make them feel welcome. The town was originally a harbor and as a harbor, it was a very important focal point for all the communities situated in the Orotava Valley and for their economic interests. The British are the ones who helped the town develop and flourish by building the attractive Grand Hotel Taoro in 1889.
The tourism industry used the hotel as a point of departure and things have only gone from good to better since then. The 1890’s transformed the famous harbor into a well-appreciated spa which the European Royalty used as a destination at which to enjoy winter activities. Even though Puerto de la Cruz has gone through many changes, it still manages to keep alive that special air of a spa destination as well as the typical charm of a small Spanish town. However, it remains a very busy and very friendly town, always vibrant and always ready to impress its visitors with its perfect balance between the old and the new.
Why Puerto de la Cruz?
Some southern Spanish resorts haven’t succeeded in maintaining their individuality. This is the reason why Puerto de la Cruz is still preferred by a large number of tourists instead of the warmer southern destinations. Some describe it as a destination for the mature holidaying clientele as it has a very long promenade and numerous crafts shops that usually attract the attention of the older tourists. However, this does not mean that the younger tourists will get bored in Puerto de la Cruz.
Actually, as concerns return visits, this town has the highest rate in the world. The town has as a focal point the Plaza del Charco. This splendid small square is located in the center of the pedestrian district, directly across from the small harbor. The fishing quarter and the promenade along the seafront are two of the places in the town that tourists should not miss for anything in the world. If you decide to visit this town, be sure to try its restaurants as they serve delicious local dishes that will nourish your senses. Make a point to visit this small Spanish town. You will most assuredly have a memorable holiday there.
