Spain has thousands of attractions and hundreds of places that deserve your attention and they are all extremely beautiful, but if you need a recommendation, here is one: visit Alicante. Lucentum, Alicante’s big attraction
Lucentum is a big attraction of Alicante; an ancient Roman city that can be found very close to the famous and popular Albufereta beach or to be more exact, right behind it. It is an archaeological site, which also functions as an open-air museum, one of the most beautiful that Spain has. The open-air museum is found just 3 kilometers away from the centre of Alicante and it is very easy to reach by bus (numbers 21, 22 and 9) or by tram (L1, L3 and L4).
When you get to the ancient city, a series of wonders will wait for you there: the original walls which were meant to protect the city, the Roman forum or at least a few ruins of it, the necropolis, the public baths, even a few private villas which have the mosaic floors intact after all these centuries. Even though Lucentum was founded by the Iberians, it is the Romans who made it prosperous; this is the reason why you will find so many structures that remind you of them. It is not unusual for a Spanish city to have lived a flourishing period under the Romans, so their fingerprints are spread all over the country. Visit Lucentum, you won’t regret it!
